Smoky Mountains
It's officially October, and Fall has started showing itself in New York. The air is crisp and cool in the morning, and the leaves are ever so slightly changing colors. Fall gets a bad rep for being a short season, when in reality, it's meant to be a transitional period. Everything shifts in the Fall : weather, routines, traditions, even clothing. As I rode the subway into work this morning, I couldn't help but notice how some people have already fully embraced their cold-temperature attire. Transition seasons make for the best people watching in New York. It will never cease to amaze me how on any given day, one person will choose to wear a heavy winter coat, and another shorts and flipflops. Personally, I love when I get to start layering up in big chunky sweaters and knit hats.
This summer has been one of my favorites in a long time. These last few months in particular I have been pushing myself to keep moving, keep shooting, keep exploring. When I was in school, I used to browse photo books and sites and think "I wish I could take a photo like that". Now is the time when I am actually DOING it. I see a place, and instead of longing for it, I'm trying to find a way to get there. After all, life is too short to dream about adventures, without ever having any. Right?
I'm glad I saw the Smoky Mountains this summer. I forgot what it felt like to drive on mountain roads, and be in high altitudes. I forgot how clean the air could smell, and what it felt like to be enveloped in mist before an oncoming storm. I forgot what it felt like to be a tourist again. To roam a town without knowing the street names, and getting lost while taking the back roads.
I need more of that.
