On the Road with Ikon Pass :: Exploring Crystal Mountain

Hi snow bunnies!

Back with another recap from this season of snow, this time sharing my adventures at Crystal Mountain in Washington state! Although I’ve explored all over the Pacific Northwest, this year marks the first time I’ve ever skied an Ikon Pass destination in the region. And after an incredible week of powder runs, classic PNW fog, and bluebird views of Mt. Rainier, I have to say :: I’m hooked.

With Mt. Rainier National Park and the stunning Cascade Range in Crystal’s backyard, the sweeping landscapes are reason enough to head to the mountain (the scenic gondola allows skiers and foot passengers alike to head up to the summit!). After a quick walk from the loading platform you’ll find Washington’s highest elevation restaurant, Summit House, that’s situated at 6,872 feet!

Whether you’re a weekend warrior, or getting in some week day runs, there is one crucial thing I learned about visiting Crystal - you’ll want to get to the mountain EARLY. Traffic and parking back up quickly, but don’t worry - coffee and misty mountain views await you as a reward!

Crystal Mountain has a great mix of terrain - making it the perfect destination for families and thrill seekers alike. Added bonus :: the mountain also allows uphill travel and offers night skiing!

To get in a full tour of the surrounding beauty, head down Northway Notch to the cat tracks - a fun summit to base run that snakes along the side of the mountain.

There are only a couple lodging options for the mountain - from the Alta Crystal Resort, to the ski in/ski out Silver Skis Chalet - or even RV glamping for the truly adventurous! For more info on booking your stay, head here.

From Summit House, to several food stalls located at Basecamp (and a couple mid mountain options, as well), there’s no shortage of dining options at Crystal. On a bluebird day, you’ll find big crowds - and lots of furry pups! - soaking up the sun at Basecamp.

After an incredible introduction to this little PNW paradise, I know I’ll be back for more! As of mid April, the mountain is getting some INSANE spring season snow - if you happen to be in the area, make sure to check it out before their final weekend of the season on May 1st!

If you’re planning to visit next season, don’t forget to renew/ grab your 22/23 Ikon Pass by April 22nd to lock in the best rates!
