On the Slopes with United by Blue

Hi guys!

Some of you may remember, back in November I was asked to try out United By Blue’s Bison Puffer Jacket. While it was more than suitable for crisp Autumn days, I knew I couldn’t give it a true stamp of approval until it passed the ultimate Northeast test : a day on the slopes.

The Bison Puffer Jacket is UBB’s latest design in their line of bison products. Made of B100™, an insulation blend of bison fiber and recycled poly, it’s definitely a unique alternative to more traditional down or synthetic outerwear currently on the market. Maybe stating the obvious, since bison live in naturally cold climates, this insulation is meant to keep you warm and dry on even the toughest of Winter weather days.

Now let’s get to some of the technical notes on the jacket. Rated to perform best in 0-50 degrees Fahrenheit, I used this jacket on a day that was in the low teens, with winds going at about 20mph. Not the coldest of days, but considering how lightweight this jacket was, I was still shocked that I stayed toasty warm with just a sweatshirt underneath! One of the key features for me on any outdoor performance jacket is POCKETS. Especially for ski days, I need a safe place to stash all my valuables. An interior zip pocket does the trick, and even kept my phone from getting too cold during runs. The shell fabric is breathable and waterproof, which definitely came in handy when we were skiing in wet snow down towards the base! Also a note on the insulation : unlike traditional down- that falls when it gets wet- the bison fiber will retain its shape and stay in place no matter the conditions.

All in all, this Bison Puffer Jacket passed the Winter test! I’ll definitely be adding it to my roster of Spring skiing apparel, since it surpassed my expectations for windy and wet weather. The simple styling also makes it a perfect piece to transition between city and mountain, a big plus for traveling! If any of you guys have additional questions on this jacket, head to the link here. Until next time!
