The Coziest Getaways in the Northeast

It’s time for another roundup of cozy getaways! With my first collection, I focused solely on my home of New York state. This time around, I included a few nearby favorites, along with some of the best leaf peeping activities.

No foliage season would be complete to me without a trip to New York’s mountain ranges. Growing up in Saratoga Springs, I was a mere hop away from the Adirondacks. Those ranges are truly my “home mountains”, where I hiked, camped, and even learned to ski as a kiddo! Though family lived close to the Catskills, it wasn’t until about four years ago that I started actively exploring the region. And now I’m kicking myself for not venturing to these southern mountains sooner! Especially because they’re home to some of the coziest cabins in the state.

Nestled in between the ski resorts sits Le Chalet, a GORGEOUS log cabin that’s begging to be the home base for après ski coziness this winter. With four bedrooms, a giant living, dining, and kitchen space, fire pit, and hot tub, it truly makes for the perfect group rental. The view from the floor to ceiling windows alone is worth the visit! (Extended stays are encouraged, three day minimum).

If you read my recent blog on Autumn in Greene County, you’ll already be familiar with this next spot : Deer Mountain Inn. Considering how this entire property is the very definition of hygge vibes, it begs to be highlighted again! With so many cozy nooks..by fireplaces, in comfy armchairs, the numerous outdoor setups, being an overnight guest is guaranteed to recharge those mental batteries. Make sure to check their IG for weekly updates on guest chefs that visit on the weekends! Dining at DMI is still open to the public, not just guests, so anyone with a dinner reservation can get a taste of the charm that resides within.

Located in Windham (just a couple miles from the ski mountain!), you’ll find Eastwind. I’ve shared this location before, but with all their recent additions, it deserves a new write up! Do you guys remember their cute mini Lushna cabin that I stayed in last winter ? They have a brand new Lushna suite, a perfectly social distanced tiny home/glamping cabin that has just enough space to sprawl out while still feeling all the cozy. The hotel offers daily bbq and breakfast baskets, so if seclusion is your goal, they’ll make all your isolation getaway dreams come true. There’s a two night minimum to stay, and the reservations go quick!

As I mentioned before, it wouldn’t be Fall without a few adventures in the Adirondacks. This year, with the season starting SUPER early, I actually started my foliage adventures in these mountains! Luckily, we had one of my favorite places to rest our heads at the end of the night : Warner’s Camp. Located in Jay (just miles away from Keene Valley and Lake Placid..with countless hiking trails in between). The cabin boasts a new wood fired sauna since our last visit, but otherwise, it was the same cozy place that I fell in love with last year. If you plan on booking this camp for any upcoming ski trips, do it quickly! Their reservations go fast.

Second to the Adirondacks, leaf peeping season is at its best in New England. Luckily, nearby neighbors of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts are all glowing with color.

If you’ve ever searched for “New England charm”, I can bet you’ve come across the quaint little town of Woodstock, Vermont. Close to some iconic landscapes, it’s also home to the cozy log “KABIN”. The owners recently acquired a similar property just a couple miles down the road, that boasts major fairytale vibes!! While this property isn’t up on Airbnb yet, make sure to check their Instagram page for updates (and reservation opportunities - their main property is currently booked up for the next couple months!). Also note : Vermont is currently requiring all out-of-state travelers to quarantine for 14 days.

If you’re heading to New England during the Fall, it’s without a doubt because you are in search of the beautiful foliage! Woodstock, VT was a great home base for us..the town is close to some iconic photo destinations, not to mention nearby covered bridges, farmer’s markets, and corn mazes to round out the Autumnal experience. If you’re up for the drive, Stowe is another beautiful place to visit in Vermont. Franconia Notch in New Hampshire is also about an hour and a half away - home to some truly beautiful hikes (not to mention infamous pancake houses!).

As the Canadian border has remained closed for months, I couldn’t pass up the chance to live vicariously through my memories at the Wood House from last year. A quick two hour drive up from Toronto will bring you to this enchanting cabin in the woods (suitably named, I think!). With an open concept living, dining, and kitchen space on the main floor and four bedrooms upstairs (not the mention the cutest loft space!!), it’s easy to see why this space has been transformed to host couples, retreats, and even workshops. They have a minimum stay of three nights, which I can attest, will not feel like enough time! This was a hard property to say goodbye to. Seriously DREAMING of returning once the border opens back up!! Fingers crossed it will be soon.
